Zombie Siege in Pre-Season

Zombie Siege follows the same 20-wave structure during pre-season, but your alliance is weaker, less coordinated, and more vulnerable. The key difference is that your margin for error is much smaller — wrong difficulty selection or poor reinforcement coordination can result in mass eliminations far earlier than in a developed alliance.

For the full event mechanics, see the Zombie Siege Guide.

Start Low, Learn Fast

In pre-season, pick a difficulty lower than you think you need. Clearing all 20 waves at a low difficulty gives better rewards than failing at wave 12 on a higher one. You can always increase difficulty next time once you know your alliance's real strength.

What Is Different in Pre-Season

Weaker Individual Defences

  • Heroes are lower level with fewer skill upgrades
  • Troops are lower tier with less HP and damage
  • Gold gear is rare — most members have purple gear or below
  • Defence formations are not optimised yet

Less Alliance Coordination

  • Members may not understand the event mechanics
  • Communication habits are still forming
  • Reinforcement coordination may be disorganised
  • Some members will forget to set their defence squad

Bigger Power Gaps

  • The gap between your strongest and weakest members is often largest in pre-season
  • Your top 5 players may survive easily while your bottom 15 get knocked out by wave 8 (each member gets 2 failed defences before elimination)
  • This makes reinforcement strategy critical — without it, you lose most of your alliance early

Pre-Season Difficulty Selection

Alliance StrengthRecommended Difficulty
Most members below HQ 15Lowest available difficulty. Focus on learning the event, not pushing rewards
Mixed HQ 15-20Low-medium difficulty. Your strong players can carry but weak players will need reinforcements
Most members HQ 20+Medium difficulty. Your alliance should clear all 20 waves with proper coordination
Strong pre-season allianceMedium-high. Push the difficulty gradually as you learn your alliance's limits

Rule of thumb: If more than 5 members get eliminated before wave 15, your difficulty is too high.

Pre-Season Reinforcement Strategy

Reinforcements are even more critical in pre-season because the power gaps between members are larger.

Before the Event

  1. Identify your weakest 5-10 members — these are the players who will need help
  2. Assign 2-3 strong players as reinforcement providers — they need to know who they are responsible for
  3. Brief weak members: "Set your defence squad. Accept all reinforcements. Stay online"

During the Event

Wave RangeReinforcement Action
Waves 1-5No reinforcements needed. Let everyone defend solo — early reinforcements steal personal points from the player being reinforced
Waves 6-8Start reinforcing your weakest 2-3 members who have already failed one defence. Send Tank squads for durability
Waves 9-12Reinforce anyone who reported taking heavy damage. Spread reinforcements across at-risk bases
Waves 13-20All available reinforcements go to the weakest surviving members. Focus on keeping as many alive as possible
Reinforce Early

Do not wait until a base is about to fall. In pre-season, weaker members can go from "fine" to "eliminated" in a single wave. Send reinforcements by wave 6-8 to the weakest members, not wave 12 when it is already too late.

Tank Players as Reinforcement Providers

In pre-season, most of your alliance runs Tank squads. This is actually an advantage for Zombie Siege:

  • Tank squads are the best at garrison defence — they absorb the most damage
  • Send your Tank heroes to reinforce weak members
  • Even a mid-strength Tank garrison can keep a weak base alive through several extra waves

Pre-Season Preparation Checklist

Send this to your alliance before every Zombie Siege:

  1. Set your defence squad on your wall — your strongest formation assigned to base defence
  2. Recall ALL troops — gathering marches, rally troops, everything comes home
  3. Heal all wounded troops — maximum strength before wave 1
  4. Stop all other activities — no gathering, no rallies, no drone missions
  5. Stay online — if you can, be available for the full event
  6. If you are weak, ask for help now — do not wait until you are about to be eliminated

What to Do If You Are Eliminated

If your base falls during the event:

  • Your reinforcement troops at other bases return to you — this frees up reinforcement capacity
  • You cannot re-enter the event for that round
  • Learn from it — what wave did you fall on? What could you do differently?
  • Help your alliance from chat — call out who needs reinforcements, coordinate for those still fighting

Building Toward Later Seasons

Zombie Siege becomes easier as your alliance grows:

  • Higher hero levels and skills mean better individual defence
  • Better gear increases survivability substantially
  • More squad diversity gives more reinforcement options
  • Better coordination comes from practising the event repeatedly in pre-season
  • Higher Alliance Gift levels provide passive bonuses that help everyone

The experience you gain now — coordinating reinforcements, choosing difficulty, communicating during the event — makes your alliance stronger for every future Zombie Siege.

Common Pre-Season Zombie Siege Mistakes

  1. Difficulty too high — the most common pre-season mistake. Start low and increase gradually
  2. Members forget to set defence squad — remind them every single time. This never stops being an issue
  3. No reinforcements sent — strong players survive solo while weak members get eliminated early
  4. Reinforcements sent too late — waiting until wave 12 to help someone struggling since wave 6
  5. Troops out on gathering marches — members lose because half their army is on a resource tile
  6. No advance notice — members log in to find the event already running and they are unprepared
  7. Strong players not helping — individual survival means less than alliance-wide wave completion
